In 2013 I’m ready to buy my first new car in over 10 years. My 2001 Honda Accord EX-L is running fine with 180,000 miles. But I think it’s time to upgrade. As I looked around in recent months nothing really grabbed me. There’s a lot of choices in mid-sized sedans out there and they’re all pretty much the same. One thing that’s important to me is fuel economy. My 2001 Accord manages about 20 MPG overall. Don’t think that’s going to cut it for a new vehicle. Who knows what the future holds. But I am pretty damned sure that gas isn’t getting any cheaper!
I’ve gotten pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Chevy Volt. While that was happening, new information started to come out about the new 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid. It can get 50 MPG or maybe more! Plus it behaves more like a Volt by operating as much as it can from electric drive. After looking at this new car on and off in recent weeks I’m getting pretty excited about it.
It goes on sale on Halloween – October 31, 2013. Pricing has been announced: $29,945, $32,695 and $35,695 for the rough-equivalent of the EX, EX-L and Touring trim levels.
The article that got me most excited about this new vehicle was posted by Motor Trend. They test drove the car in Japan and got close to 59 MPG.
What I’d like to know is color choices. So far I’ve only seen it pictured in black. The Accord Plug-in Hybrid came in black or white. Kia only offers two or three colors for their Optima Hybrid. Hopefully Honda will give us a little more than “any color you want as long as it’s black”.
